Carrie Ann Herndon Wilkes, age 76 of Bennettsville, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Carrie was born March 9,1948, in Bennettsville. She was a daughter of the late Edmond and Janie Quick Herndon. Carrie was a Godly woman. She was a faithful member at Victory World Outreach Center for 44 years. Carrie worked in the church as a Sunday School teacher. She also helped with Children’s Church. Carrie enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help anybody. Carrie treated everyone she met as family. She was “Me Ma” to everyone. Carrie enjoyed spending time and making memories with all her family.
In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Douglas Wilkes, Sr.; a grandson, Matthew Ryan Wilkes; brothers, Billy Herndon, Bobby Herndon, Prentiss Herndon; sisters, Nancy Herndon, Lou Sanderson, Betty Chavis, Frances Hudson, Wilma Smith, Susan Herndon.
Carrie is survived by her son, Linwood Douglas Wilkes, Jr. (Melisha) of Bennettsville; daughters, Carrie Wilkes Ramey (Dean) of Lamar, Betty Baumgardner of Bennettsville, and Joyce Huggins of Chesterfield; brothers, Edmond “Pee Wee” Herndon, Jr. of Liberty, NC and David Herndon (Judy) of Cheraw; a sister, Linda Jordan (Jesse) of Cheraw; grandchildren, Danielle Crowley, Joshua Wilkes, Jalysha Wilkes, Christina Farris, April McDonald, Savannah Scruggs, Brittany Ramey, Michael Huggins, Justin Wilkes, Jasmine Anderson, Tyler Pope, Whitney Pope, Austin Lammonds, Steven McDaniel, Jr., and Carolina English; fifteen great grandchildren; special son, Steve McDaniel; special daughter, Shannon Lammonds; and special friend, Alexander Chavis; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive.
A service to celebrate Carrie’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Victory World Outreach Center. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.
